Energy - Head Start - Homemaking - IDA - Social Services - RSVP - Transportation

Social Services:

SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT:  A variety of programs are administered by the Social Service Staff. This department serves economically disadvantaged families and individuals of all ages.  Services include counseling, advocacy and support services.  Information and referral services cover a variety of needs, including childcare resources, health, food, furniture, clothing, employment assistance, shelter assistance, money management, and State DSS services. Case Management Unit:  Services include employment assistance as well as case management in the areas of counseling, income management, child care issues, housing and advocacy and support. For more information call Nancy Micloskey at (860) 589-8623 or email: nmicloskey@bcoinc.org

 

HUSKY :  Case Management service and application assistance are provided to eligible clients needing HUSKY insurance and/or Healthy Start services for pregnant women.  Support, information and referral services are provided.  Prenatal workshops are provided by the Bristol Hospital Exchange Club Parent and Child Center . Healthy Start:  These services are funded by the State Department of Social Services through the Hartford Health Department.  It offers Prenatal Care focused on health-related case management services to eligible pregnant women and follows the family until the child is age 3.  The overall goals of this initiative are to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and low birth weight in Connecticut ; and to increase and improve health care coverage/insurance and access for children and eligible pregnant women.  For more information call Tanya Ledesma at (860) 584-2725 ext.23 or email: tledesma@bcoinc.org

Eviction Prevention Program:  This program helps families and individuals who are facing eviction or foreclosure and may become homeless.  The program provides tenants and landlords with an opportunity to have their disputes mediated and resolved without need for legal action.  For more information call Nancy Micloskey at (860) 589-8623 or email: nmicloskey@bcoinc.org

 

Youth Employment:  This program offers eligible youths an opportunity to gain educational and work related experience and to develop basic skills.  It is designed to provide services for 16 to 21 year old youths that qualify under the Federal Economic Guidelines under Title 1B of the Work Force Investment Act. Individual Development Account (IDA):  IDA’s are a special matched savings account designed to help families and individuals establish a pattern of regular savings and ultimately, purchase a “qualifying asset” such as the purchase of a first home, secondary education, or small business start up.  Participants may save up to $1,500.00 and will receive a match of $3,000.00. Grandparents Raising Grand Children:  Provides assistance to grandparents 60 years of age and older who have primary responsibility for raising their grandchildren.  Assistance is offered to help families find needed services, to file applications for desired programs, etc.  Funding comes from the North Central Area Agency on Aging (NCAAA) - Title III of the Older Americans Act money.  For more information call Rose Bourgoin at (860) 582-2796 or email: rbourgoin@bcoinc.org   

 

Transitional Living Program/Beyond Shelter: This program is in partnership with the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness and the Connecticut Department of Social Services. This program prevents the recurrence of homelessness by providing up to one year of follow up services and transitional housing programs.
